Frequently Bought Together (FBT)
What FBT does
A quick overview of Frequently Bought Together bundles and when to use them.
This article is a draft and may be incomplete or change before publishing.
FBT — Frequently Bought Together — shows 1–3 complementary products on a trigger product's page (or in the cart) with one-click "Add bundle" and an optional discount.
Why it works
FBT drives AOV when the bundle is genuinely useful. The classic example: camera + SD card + camera bag. Each item alone solves part of the problem; together, they're the complete kit.
Where it renders
- Product detail pages (PDP) — most common
- Cart drawer — alongside other in-cart upsells
- Collection pages — optional, less common
What it isn't
FBT isn't a personalization engine. You hand-pick the bundle. If you want algorithmic recommendations, that's AI Recommended in post-purchase upsells, not FBT.
When to skip
If you don't have natural product pairings (a single hero product, no accessories), FBT won't help. Stick to volume discounts or cart upsells.
