The legacy free-gift function — still used by stores that haven't migrated.
The Free Gift discount function is a legacy Shopify Function that makes gift items free at checkout when reward thresholds are met.
Status
Still in use on stores that installed Oxify before the unified discount: it runs behind the IA Cart - Free Gift Discount discount until the store migrates. New stores use the unified discount instead.
How it works
Checks the cart against your free-gift reward tiers and, when a tier qualifies, takes 100% off the gift lines that are already in the cart. It doesn't add the gift itself — the cart drawer does that.
Should I migrate
Yes. Migrating moves your cart rewards into the single Oxify Cart Unified Discount, which also runs your FBT, volume and upsell discounts, and the Product Page Upsell (FBT) feature requires it. See Migrate from legacy to unified for the one-click migration.
If you stay on legacy
Your existing reward tiers keep working through the separate discounts until you migrate. The unified discount is the recommended setup.
