Timer types

Cart page timer

Add a countdown to your cart page, and optionally clear the cart when it expires.

A Cart Page timer is deliberately minimal: one line of text with the countdown embedded inside it. It's the only type that can clear the customer's cart when time runs out.

Set it up

Click Create timer and select Cart Page.

On the Content tab, enter a Timer name.

Write your Title, using the {timer} token where the countdown should appear.

Set the fixed-minute duration for the countdown.

Set Once Timer Ends.

Design the timer on the Design tab.

On the Placement tab, choose At top of cart page or Custom position.

Save and publish.

The {timer} token

The title is a single multi-line field, and you place the countdown inside it with {timer}:

Your cart is reserved for {timer} — checkout now to keep these items.

On the storefront the token is replaced by the live countdown. The help text under the field reminds you: Use {timer} where you want to display the timer.

If you leave {timer} out of the title, the customer sees your text with no countdown in it.

How it differs from other types

  • No subheading — the title is the whole message
  • No timer labels — there are no Days/Hours/Minutes captions to configure
  • No countdown type selector — a cart timer runs on a fixed-minute countdown
  • No call to action or close button

Clearing the cart when it ends

Cart page timers are the only type that offers Delete All the items in the cart under Once Timer Ends. When the countdown reaches zero, the customer's cart is emptied.

Use cart deletion with real care

Emptying a cart destroys a customer's work and is a fast route to a lost sale and an angry email. Only use it if your store genuinely holds reserved stock, keep the duration generous, and say plainly in the title what will happen.

See Once the timer ends.

Good uses

  • Your cart is reserved for {timer}
  • Complete checkout within {timer} to keep free shipping
  • Sale pricing held for {timer}

Tip

15 to 30 minutes is the usual range. Shorter feels manipulative; much longer stops creating any urgency at all.
