Translate CTA URLs

Send visitors to the right localized page for their language.

On a multi-language store, your English visitors and your French visitors need different destination URLs. The Call to action URL field supports a translation per language, so each visitor lands on the correct localized page.

Add a translated URL

Open the announcement and go to the Content tab.

Set Call to action to Button or Make entire bar clickable.

Enter your main-language URL in Call to action URL — for example /collections/sale.

Click the translation icon next to the field.

Select a language and enter the URL for it — for example /fr/collections/soldes.

Repeat for your other languages.

Click Done, then Save.

URL patterns

Shopify prefixes localized URLs with the language code:

LanguageURL
English (default)/collections/sale
French/fr/collections/sale
German/de/collections/sale
Spanish/es/collections/sale

If you've also translated the collection or product handle in Shopify, use the translated handle in the URL.

Save and Publish the announcement.

Open your storefront and switch to each language using your store's language selector.

Click the bar's CTA and confirm it lands on the right page.

A translated URL that points at a page which doesn't exist in that language gives your customer a 404. Test every language before publishing a site-wide bar.

Tip

If you haven't translated your handles, you usually only need the language prefix — /fr/collections/sale works even when the handle itself is still English.
