Allow extra items in a box

Let customers keep adding items past the box size, with the discount rising as they reach bigger boxes.

By default a box is a hard limit: a Box of 6 holds six items, and once it's full the builder moves the customer up to the next box size. Turn on Allow customers to add more items than the selected quantity and every box quantity becomes a minimum instead. Customers keep adding, and they get the discount of the biggest box they've reached.

Turn it on

Open your builder and go to the Products tab.

In Quantity as an option, make sure Enable quantity as an option is ticked. The setting is hidden without it.

Click Advanced settings, under the Add Option button.

Tick Allow customers to add more items than the selected quantity.

Click Save.

It's off by default, so existing builders keep working the way they always have until you tick it.

What customers get

Say you have a box of 3 at 5% off and a box of 5 at 10% off.

  • Add to Cart switches on as soon as the smallest box is reached. Any reached box counts as a complete bundle.
  • The selected box follows the item count on its own, so the sidebar, the price and the cart all agree.
  • Nothing fills up and blocks the customer. The only ceiling is 500 items in one bundle.
  • % Off boxes keep the same percentage however many items are added.

Fixed Price scales per item

The price you enter for a Fixed Price box covers that box's quantity. Beyond it, the price keeps growing at the box's per-item rate — the fixed price divided by the box quantity — and the total is rounded to the cent. A box of 5 for $50 becomes $60 for 6 items and $70 for 7.

Good to know

  • Selection rules still apply: a category with a cap stops accepting items once it's reached. See Selection rules.
  • With Show products as individual lines in the cart on, a shopper who removes items in the cart below the quantity of the tier they earned loses that discount.
  • A bundle with no discount works the same way — the setting only changes how many items are allowed.

Check the maths
