How quantity breaks work
What a tier is, what the customer sees, and how the discount reaches checkout.
A quantity break is a list of offer tiers on your product page. Each tier is one quantity of the same product at one discount.
What the customer sees
| Tier | Quantity | Discount | Shown as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offer #1 | 1 | No discount | 1 Pack — $10.00 |
| Offer #2 | 2 | 10% off | 2 Pack — $18.00 |
| Offer #3 | 3 | 20% off | 3 Pack — $24.00 |
The customer taps a tier, then clicks your theme's normal Add to cart button.
What happens next
The selected tier's quantity is added to the cart — pick the 3-pack, and three units go in.
Any free gifts or upsells attached to that tier are added too.
At checkout, Shopify's automatic discount function applies the tier's discount.
Because the discount lands at checkout, the cart may briefly show full price. The total the customer pays is the discounted one.
Good candidates
Quantity breaks work best on products people buy more than one of — supplements, cosmetics, coffee, socks, consumables, refills.
If you want customers to combine different products instead, use a Mix & Match offer or the Bundle Builder.
Rules worth knowing
- One bundle per product page. If several bundles target the same product, the most specific one wins: selected products, then selected collections, then all-except-selected, then all products. Same mode on both? The older bundle wins.
- Quantity must be at least 1 on every tier.
- Tier order is what customers see. Reorder with the Move Up / Move Down buttons.
